Even many owners of upscale homes are looking to economize these days, both in terms of cash and in terms of space. Especially for large families, therefore, bunkbeds are becoming a more and more popular means of maximizing value and use of space. Below is an example that illustrates the point.

This is a fine example of classicism at its most appealing. Simple and direct and suitable for older children and even the post-college adult children who often find themselves boomeranging back to the family homestead these days. It doesn’t get more simple and attractive than this.

When we think of childrens bunk beds, most of us imagine the traditional twin over twin bed style, but that is really only the start. The above is an example of two full size beds, i.e. “full over full.” Again, with its classical styling this model would be appropriate for old children and even adults, like those returning graduates we mentioned, with its larger size. The stuffed bears are definitely optional.

Another popular configuration actually combines a twin size bed over a full size mattress. We imagine this might be a pretty good way to split the difference in the eternal battle over who gets the top bunk, as the loser of the battle who ends up in the more banal bottom bunk is compensated by having more room in which to roll around in while at rest. With a convenient and perhaps more safety conscious staircase, this model is as deluxe and well made as any of the bunk bets we’ve looked at.

If you’re going to put your young kids into bunk beds, you might as well have fun while you’re doing so. This “Sunday Funnies” design puts us very much in mind of all kinds of classic children’s television programs going back all the way to Captain Kangaroo and Romper Room, and we just kind of love it.
