A modern space should be warm and alluring as opposed to the common misconception of stark and barren. Previously discussed was what we want to accomplish when designing our modern bathroom and a great way to achieve a focal point, an essential in any bathroom, with the bathroom vanity.

The question is where to go from there? What is the next most predominant fixture in your bathroom? The obvious answer is the bathtub. Not only is it visually important but functionally essential as well. Your tub is likely to be the greatest source of pleasure and luxury in your entire bathroom. It’s a costly, long-term investment so know your options and choose wisely.

For a truly spectacular statement a freestanding tub is the way to go. Once known as the claw-foot tub a freestanding tub was reserved exclusively for the most traditional bathrooms. Now they are available in modern, sleek styles that are both romantic and alluring.

A freestanding tub is a bathtub that stands alone, unenclosed by any walls. Without enclosures it has a unique airy style and a design element that’s all its own. Freestanding tubs are offered in a multitude of styles and options including whirlpool, air and soakers. They are available in many different materials, shapes and colors. A fashionable option in high-end contemporary bathrooms is a stone tub, costly but gorgeous.

If you don’t have the space for a freestanding tub there are many other great choices for you. There is the corner tub, enclosed on two sides and often triangular shaped. Corner tubs are usually large and can comfortable accommodate two. Set in a wooden deck you can achieve a unique, cutting-edge style and enjoy the sensual pleasure of bathing in natural surroundings.

An alcove tub would be another option which is practical for a smaller bathroom since you can combine the shower and tub. It is perhaps the most common tub but that does not mean it’s boring. A lustrous finish or distinctive apron front can make your alcoved tub stand out magnificently.
